A Memo From Mike:
Well, its been awhile since a Student Outlook newsletter has been
posted. This is mainly due to the fact that I have been out of the office
at various student events. I was lucky enough to meet a large number of
Students at the 2004 Student Job Quest in Columbus, Ohio and at the 2004
AAPG/SEG Student Expo in Houston, Texas.
There are few things I would like to make you aware of:
Student Chapter Book Gift
The Student Chapter Book Gift for 2004-2005. The deadline to apply
for this is November 20th, 2004. Download
a form and learn of the requirements. I sent many Chapters an email
notification of the program, and have received and processed a number
of these requests. As you may be aware, Chapters are eligible to receive
the gift if they are a new Chapter that has never received the gift,
or if they have not received the gift in 3 years.
I have had a number of Chapters contact me, asking if they are eligible,
before they apply. Thank you! It is much easier for me to quickly check
than to notify you afterwards that you will not be receiving the gift.
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
Please note that the deadline to submit abstracts for the 2005 Annual
Meeting was extended to November 15.
I strongly encourage students to attend and present their work at AAPG
Meetings. This experience I feel is a very valuable career move. I also
look forward to meeting many of you at the Annual Meeting. Please see
the letter from the Student Chapter Committee in this issue of the "Student
Outlook"
Weeks Grant:
The 2004-2005 L. Austin Weeks Grant applications as well as
year end chapter reports are due on December
1, 2004. These applications were mailed out to Student Chapters
in September, yet I have heard that some Student Chapters did not receive
the forms.
If needed you may download
the needed forms and information.
Remember to be eligible for the Weeks Grant you must be an Active chapter
and AAPG has received your last two chapter reports, one in May-June
and the other before the December 1 deadline.

Mike
